All properties need to meet fire codes. Because of this, a regular fire inspection is necessary to review the premises and determine if there is fire hazards present in any area of the structure. A Fire Inspection will also pinpoint any fire alarms or smoke detectors that are incorrectly placed or not functioning appropriately.
Fire extinguishers are important on their own and will be assessed at the time of fire inspection. Extinguishers need to be available in the correct places and be the proper type to put out the class of fire that is most likely to occur in a given structure. Fire extinguishers need maintenance, which means they should be checked yearly and need to be refilled every few years (depending on the type), not just at the time of Fire Inspection. Extinguishers cannot work if people do not know how to use them, so training on how to operate them is absolutely necessary.
In accordance with the law, buildings need to have a fire inspection annually or semi-annually. As a matter of safety, it is also a good practice to have a home inspection by a professional regularly so you are made aware of any hazards that can be corrected to prevent loss of life and damage to property. Dave Kitzki provides Fire Inspection and Home Inspection in the Southeast Wisconsin and surrounding Areas.
